Week 7 - Nothing But Plans
Happy spooky day at least.
I do mean nothing, I haven't really opened Godot this week. Got busy making an art piece for a friend and was busy with other miscellaneous tasks, it ended up eating into my free time.
How about I spend this time discussing the plan? Going until the end of the year, there are 8 more Sundays + 1, full publish day is January 1st. Assuming the "take your schedule and add 30%" thing I heard from some folks, that gives me five weeks. That's not a lot of time, especially if I keep having weeks like this. So the plan is to use those five weeks building out the world, then the last three doing polish and promotion. I'm also busy during that time (holidays) so there won't be much time anyhow.
Things that I am not doing. This is not because I don't want to do them, but because I do and need to scope back. If you think I can do it with the time remaining, let me know.
- Day/night cycle. This one is a maybe because I really want to do pretty night skyboxes and lighting
- Active NPCs. Ones that walk around places with routines because that would involve navmesh and I haven't learned how to use it.
The big bad to do list:
- The world
- Interesting things to do and find
- Quest locations
- Art
- (Maybe) Redo the 2D tileset, I sorta don't want to use someone else's, but I probably don't have the time to do that.
- 3D models
- Environment. Sticking low poly but it still takes time
- Shaders and lighting
- Either a toon shader or something that works better with the low resolution. I've played A Short Hike, will look into some of what that did.
- Music!
- An outdoor song
- An indoor song
- Sound effects
- Item collection
- Text box noises.
- The character noises is a neat trick, but may or may not implement it for time. A polish step.
There are definitely things I'm forgetting, and bugs that will come up, but I think that's an okay scope.
Next week is the same as last week, again, I didn't work on anything. Sorry for the poor showing.
